VLC has the basic features as a DVD ripper. To do a rip video, go to the Media menu and select Convert, Save, then select Disc tab. Here you will be able to start the rip process, then if the settings have been completed, click Save.
Video Recording: VLC has the ability to record video during playback. Recording button is hidden by default. To bring it up, click on View and then Advance Control. Record button should appeare. Click on that button when playing video and VLC will start recording it. Click back to stop the video recording process.
Playing RAR Files: VLC can play uncompressed video in RAR files. VLC can play the video just as well as play a normal video. If the RAR file is split into multiple files, it does not matter. Simply load the first part and VLC will automatically take part to part to play the file.
Convert Video and Audio: VLC can convert video and audio files from one format to another, with different formats like MP4, WMV, OGG, MP3, and so on. To access the converter feature, visit Media, then Convert / Save. Select the file you want to convert, then click Convert. Then select the output format and select the file location.
Playing video in ASCII mode: VLC has a unique ability, that is able to play video in ASCII mode. To enable ASCII mode, open VLC media player and click on Tools then Preferences. Open the video area and under Output select Color ASCII art output from the video output menu.
